This is a really really old blog post I made way back when I started doing anything that involved computers. I mean so old that I originally posted this on my Myspace blog, and then again on Tweeaks before it was hacked. It’s a good tutorial though, and worth re-posting for a third time here on the new Tweeaks blog. It can help you learn how to remove items that load when your computer starts up, which can slow down the startup process. The more things you have running, the slower it will be.
This method isn’t the best way to control the startup, but it is a good start. Many programs and process will by default install to the startup, and they are not needed immediately as you start your computer. Most of them can be started on a as-needed basis, when you open the program. That way they aren’t trying to load all at once.
I use this method myself quite often, but there are other tools you can use to do the same thing, more safely, such as the tool provided by Spybot Search and Destroy in the Tools section when in Advanced mode. Other numerous programs also have a feature that allows you to control the startup programs and processes as well. This is merely just the built-in Windows tool that’s good for quick access.
1- In the Windows Start Menu select > Run.

2. Type MSCONFIG in the textarea and press enter.

3. This launches Microsoft’s System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab in the dialog box (the tab on the far right).

System Configuration Utility in Windows XP4. This takes you to a page with a list of “startup items.” Startup items are programs that are automatically loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary, others are simply a waste of RAM.

System Configuration Utilities, Startup Tab, in Windows XP Essential programs are loaded through something called “Windows Services.” This means that most of the startup items you see in XP are completely optional and can be turned off. (IF I was you… For now, i will disable everything and just leave the Antivirus).
5. Click on the OK button. A message will pop up telling you that you must restart your computer before these changes will take effect. Click Yes to your reboot computer.

That’s it! Your computer should now boot faster and crash less.

Everyone gets sick of all the thousands of advertisements seen on the internet, on just about every website you visit, at any given time. Some advertisements are so annoying and sometimes you just want them gone. You may be one of the 58 million Firefox users that have installed the extension,
I recently came to learn how useful using the excerpt feature that is built into Wordpress. You can use excerpts if you want to show a short blurb for each post on your blog’s homepage, which I have been wanting to do on Tweeaks for a long time now I just didn’t know how to do it. Since I was doing some layout modifications, and tweaks FINALLY, I figured I should find out how to use excerpts, and I am happy I did. It’s so easy
