speedpcThis is a really really old blog post I made way back when I started doing anything that involved computers. I mean so old that I originally posted this on my Myspace blog, and then again on Tweeaks before it was hacked. It’s a good tutorial though, and worth re-posting for a third time here on the new Tweeaks blog. It can help you learn how to remove items that load when your computer starts up, which can slow down the startup process. The more things you have running, the slower it will be.

This method isn’t the best way to control the startup, but it is a good start. Many programs and process will by default install to the startup, and they are not needed immediately as you start your computer. Most of them can be started on a as-needed basis, when you open the program. That way they aren’t trying to load all at once.

I use this method myself quite often, but there are other tools you can use to do the same thing, more safely, such as the tool provided by Spybot Search and Destroy in the Tools section when in Advanced mode. Other numerous programs also have a feature that allows you to control the startup programs and processes as well. This is merely just the built-in Windows tool that’s good for quick access.

(IF I was you… For now, i will disable everything and just leave the Antivirus).

5. Click on the OK button. A message will pop up telling you that you must restart your computer before these changes will take effect. Click Yes to your reboot computer.

That’s it! Your computer should now boot faster and crash less.
